Our Mission and Vision

Rooted Sport Psychology Coaching is dedicated to empowering athletes through a comprehensive approach that blends mental resilience training with personal growth strategies. Our mission is to help athletes navigate the challenges of competitive sports by fostering a strong foundation of confidence, focus, and self-awareness. We believe in nurturing the whole athlete, ensuring they are equipped to handle pressure and excel both on and off the field.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps athletes recognize and change negative thoughts like “I always choke under pressure” or “I have to impress my coach.” Since thoughts, feelings, and actions are connected, shifting to a more positive mindset can improve confidence, emotions, and overall performance.

Why use CBT:

  1. To help athletes use thought-stopping techniques to block out intrusive thoughts.
  2. Teach athletes productive self talk to promote confidence and motivation.
  3. Reframe failure and reduce perfectionist tendencies.

Existentialism

Existentialism is about freedom, choice, and responsibility in an unpredictable world. It asks questions like “Why do I play?” and “Who am I beyond my sport?”

As an athlete, it’s easy to base your whole identity on your sport (I struggled with this too!). The problem? Your self-worth gets tied to your performance. If you play badly, you might feel like a failure—not just as an athlete, but as a person.

Why use Existentialism:

  1. To help athletes see themselves as more than just an athlete and identify other roles in their life. Sport is what you do, not who you are.
  2. To help athletes rediscover their why for playing.
  3. To attach value to their character and not the outcome of their performance.

Strengths-Based Approach (SBA)

A strengths-based approach is using an athlete’s already existing positive qualities to help them further improve their performance and enjoyment in sports and life.

Why use SBA:

  1. To show athletes they are resilient and capable when facing challenges.
  2. To help athletes regain confidence and control when they feel powerless over things like playing time and stats.
  3. To remind them of past struggles they’ve overcome and the skills they can use again in the future.

7 Point Creed for Athletes

The 7 Point Creed for Athletes serves as a powerful framework to enhance both mental resilience and performance, emphasizing the importance of serving others, positive self-talk, and personal definitions of success while encouraging athletes to visualize triumph, compete authentically, and embrace the joy of the game rather than seeking external validation.
